Real estate investors regularly invest in their local towns and cities; for understandable reasons, such as having familiarity with the area and the ability to finance a deal. Stepping outside of your local area and investing internationally presents challenges you simply won't face at home, but when you consider the pros, foreign investing has perks that local real estate can't provide.  

 

Caribbean real estate poses a major hurdle which tends to be the stumbling block for most.

 

How am I supposed to know where to invest?

My wife and I faced that exact question when we first decided to take on this opportunity. It didn't take long for us to narrow down our search to a place we now call home: Sousa/Cabarete in Puerto Plata Province. This beach town in the North Coast of the island has it all: beaches, tourism, familiar stores, restaurants, parks, forests, water sports, water parks, golf, discos, high-class dining and local restaurants and it is very child friendly. Spread across three kilometres of beachfront, you have varying lifestyle options like surf, rural, suburban and urban communities, as well as European, North American and local atmospheres.  
 

With this particular area being so expat heavy, an English speaker will have no problem visiting without knowing any Spanish. Knowing a little Spanish, however, goes a long way with the locals!

Now that we know a little about the general area, property discovery is the fun part. Your project manager at Pico Duarte Real Estate Investments will present various listings (private and public) within your budget and location requirements. Listings that meet our informal search requirements will be subject to an onsite 10-point evaluation and provide a detailed rundown. From there, once you have settled on a property, we invite you to come down to close on the deal. We will have everything organized and prepared for you, including a celebratory dinner on the beach!
